Short Wood Bio of Scott Johnson and Quick Survey added to Home page.

A few items have been posted in my Gallery that you can look at if you would like to see a few of my favorite items I made in the past for family, friends, and just for fun.  Items on that page are not for sale, but if you would like me to make something for you, just contact me and I will get something worked out for you.  Down the road I plan to have some items on each page available for purchase.

SJwoodturn News

I'm thinking of adding a slide show of past items to this front page.

The Christmas Season is upon us and days to complete projects are getting fewer and fewer.  I had some big ambitions to get more items on here this year for sale, but unfortunately that is not going to happen.  I appreciate your patience as I continue to work on getting items made and posted here for sale.

Short Wood Bio of Scott Johnson

Thank you for taking some time out of your busy day to visit my site.  My name is Scott Johnson, and I started woodturning as a hobby in 2008.  My best friend and I have discussed the desire we both have of learning the art/skill of woodworking for a couple of years.  He purchased a wood lathe and invited me over to try it out.  He allowed me to make my first pen and I was hooked.  In 2010 I was surprised by my wife with a lathe of my very own.  With a small corner in our garage, I have been (and continue to) practice and learn the skills it takes to be a great woodturner/artist.  I have attempted a couple of small segmented as well as inside-out turning projects, which have not only been a delight to work on, but have produced quite interesting/beautiful items.  These are two turning techniques I would like to master, and will be showcasing more similar projects in the future on this site.

I have had no formal training in turning nor in general woodworking.  Most things I have learned have been through reading articles and blogs of woodturners online, watching videos of woodturners online, and spending time at the lathe.  There is no better way to learn, than to put the tool to the wood and just try it.  However, please make sure that you read, understand, and follow the owner's manual of any tool prior to use of that tool.  Practice does not make perfect if you are practicing unsafe techniques.

Along with woodturning, I have recently had the chance to play around with my father-in-law's scroll saw.  As with turning, I have learned all I currently know (which is very little) from the web.

This web site I have started primarily to have a place to showcase and sell items I have been and will be making in the future.  I have a number of ideas of where I want to go with this site, but time and your input.  If there is something you would like to see (i.e. instructions, project plans, tips, tool reviews, etc.) please contact me and let me know.  My blog is a place where I have in the past put all my pictures/comments of my work.  I plan for now to continue using this blog as a place to discuss my current projects.

If you have any further comments/questions, please feel free to contact me either through my Contact Me page on this site, or email me at
[email protected].
